Our Warm Holiday Thank You

Our Warm Holiday Thank You

As we approach the holiday season, we would like to take a moment to thank everyone who has made a difference in the lives of the children we support. Our students are most thankful for your encouragement and hope to excel in their lives, thanks to your gift. Our volunteers are thankful to have found like-minded supporters like you who identify with our children and are willing to follow through, year after year, as a volunteer or donor or a well wisher who keeps our children in their thoughts. Finally, we are thankful for your trust. We know what a privilege that is. Thank you and we will be in touch again next month, celebrating the accomplishments of our children, volunteers, and supporters like you.

NCEF has partnered with various like-minded charitable organizations in the past to fundraise, increase its public visibility, and strengthen its relationship with similar organizations. Last year, NCEF participated in the 2010 Association of the Nepalis in the Americas (ANA) convention, an annual gathering that sees the largest concentration of the Nepalis in North America. Apart from setting a booth to provide information to the visitors, NCEF also presented its missions and goals at Nepal Ko Yuwa's (Nepal's Youth) social change forum. In the past, NCEF also participated at the 2009 ANA Youth Forum. The social change forum showcased a handful of organizations run by Nepali youth.

This month NCEF collaborated with Nepal ko Yuwa and Boston youth group for another event called "Walk for Nepal" on November 6, 2011. The organizers of the event aim to bring Nepalis from all walks of life in a simple act of walking to give back to Nepal. The organizers created this event as a common platform for organizing walkathons in major cities worldwide in the future to mobilize individuals and organizations interested in the socio-economic development of Nepal.

NCEF table was set up along with four other established organizations who took part in this event: Nyaya Health, Friends of Maiti Nepal, Help Nepal Network, and Empower Dalit Women of Nepal (EDWON). Three NCEF members were present at the table - Hem Pokharel, Aadit Sitaula and Inku Subedi. The event also provided an opportunity to meet our past publicity chair Chhitij Bashyal at the event. Many visitors at the event were able to learn more about NCEF by talking with the members and through the pamphlets that were distributed. NCEF exceeded its goal of having 30 walkers and raise $1500 through this event. In total, there were 69 walkers and 17 sponsors. We would like to thank all individuals who supported NCEF by either walking at the event or sponsoring our walkers. We would like to thank our volunteers as well. In total, NCEF raised $ 2,421. The total amount will be split between NCEF and Walk for Nepal (WFN) Organizing team at an 80:20 ratio. WFN will be using the funds to support a small but high impact non-profit project in Nepal through a vote.

NCEF would like to thank Nepal ko Yuwa and Walk for Nepal organizing team for initiating such an important project that will provide many children with education in Nepal.
