Volunteer Voices: Newest Board Member Priyata Thapa

How long have you volunteered for NCEF? What tasks did you help with?

I have volunteered for NCEF for a little over a year now. I have helped with supporting existing activities and publicizing, and with planning new fundraising initiatives. I have also engaged in grant applications and in coordinating our newsletter production.

Did you have other volunteer experience in the past?

Yes, my past experiences include: helping build a community center; maintaining a goodwill store; caring for children at daycares and mental health units; raising funds for survivors of the Nepal and Haiti earthquakes and American Cancer Society, etc. One of my fondest memories would be volunteering for Nepali classes at MIT, where we provided free Nepali language classes to second-generation Nepalese children from diverse backgrounds in the Boston community every Sunday.

What motivated you to step up your level of involvement with NCEF?

I knew of NCEF mostly through a family member who is one of the founders of this organization. I also worked closely with NCEF members on another project - nepalquake.org, a site to help coordinate relief efforts in post-quake Nepal. I am passionate about helping disadvantaged children, and highly regard what NCEF has been doing all these years for the children who need significant attention/help that is unfortunately not given to them. I gladly took the opportunity to be involved with this organization because it was the perfect platform to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of these children in Nepal.

Please share one thing the readers may not know about NCEF.

NCEF is entirely volunteer-run.
